My students come from very diverse backgrounds and family situations. Our school is located in a small town that serves grades Kindergarten-5th grade.
All students have the desire to learn and succeed.
School provides my students with a place to feel safe and explore new things daily. I teach in a Title I school where more than half of my students are below the poverty level. What my students may lack in resources, they makeup in enthusiasm. They are curious learners and want to learn about their world.
My Project
The majority of our students are coming to school hungry every day. In class, we share a vision with goals of how we want to grow together and that can be very difficult if you are hungry. In our school, we believe in preparing our students for college regardless of their background or circumstances. Our students are dedicated to growing as learners every single day!
A lot of my students receive free and reduced lunch.
When we fill a child's belly, their mind will be open to learning. Students are able to bring snacks from home to eat mid-morning, but most of my students do not have anything to bring. I want to build a cupboard of snacks so that all students have the same access to nutritional food and juice. These snacks include crackers, fruit snacks, apple sauce, and granola bars. Long days at school are already hard enough for 1st graders without having to endure it hungry!
