On our 4th grade team, we share a vision with goals of how we want to grow together. The students' classroom shared vision includes their desire to "strive for excellence." That is what we do, but we face the challenge of very limited resources.
In our school district, we believe in preparing our students for the 21st century regardless of their backgrounds or circumstances.
We are a Title I school and have the highest number of ESOL students in our area. Our students are dedicated to growing as learners every single day!
My Project
Ninety percent of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Our school tries to supplement by sending snacks home for the weekend. However, this is not enough!
By filling a child's heart by loving them and their stomachs by feeding them, their minds will be open to learn.
Our grade level has a really late lunch.
Students are able to bring snacks from home to eat mid-morning, but most of my students do not have anything to bring. Those who do bring snacks cannot afford healthy ones. I want to build a cupboard of snacks, so that all students have the same access to nutritional food. Long days at school are already hard enough for nine-year olds without having to endure them while hungry!
