My Students

Our school is in an urban area in central Virginia. We are very proud with the amount of diversity represented with our elementary school. Our students and teachers love books and make reading a special part of each day. Along with motivating our students to read books they enjoy, our teachers are always working to increase our students' academic achievements and social-emotional skills. We work very hard to build a trusting and loving relationship between our students and teachers. We are proud of our school community!

My Project

My students are in need of high interest history books as a way to engage them in nonfiction. Most people see history books as being very dry amd uninteresting. That is why I love the You Wouldn't Want to series. The books teach all the funny and gory details of history that can capture a reader's attention.

My students need to engage in the excitement of reading nonfiction books.

For many of my students, they have not engaged in nonfiction for their own reading pleasure. I would like to add these books to our collection to entice more of my students into reading history, especially since some of the titles address our history standards. The others are just for fun.
