Human Body

My students need interactive models of the human body and body parts to help them learn about anatomy in biology class.

My Students

Help inspire a future generation of doctors, pharmacists, biologists and science teachers! With these new interactive anatomy models, science can come alive for my student as they explore the amazing, complicated machine that is the human body.

I teach middle school science at a public charter school in Pennsylvania.

My school is in a pretty poor part of our city and most of the students are low-income, so they have limited access to educational opportunities outside of school. We are almost 100% African-American. Despite this, we are a high-achieving school and have received national honors for our great academic performance. Our middle school students love math and science - especially the girls! Many of our kids graduate high school and go on to college. But there is plenty of time for my students to lose interest or fall behind before they can take that step, so I am looking for new ways to spark and feed their passion about science and medicine as academic subjects and possible career paths.

My Project

In this time of technology and gadgets, it is easy for students to lose interest when they are only learning from the textbook. I try to use as many hands-on activities as I can to make science class relevant and exciting. These 3D models are great tools for getting my kids engaged in learning about biology and anatomy. They allow the students to explore the intricacies of the human body for themselves. By holding and dissecting the models, they can gain a clearer idea of how the organs work and can visualize how the complex parts of the body interact. My students' enthusiasm at being able to hold and examine models like these is overwhelming. In the past, they have even requested to take the models to lunch with them! They love it!

It's important to spark students' interest in science as early as we can to correct the racial and gender inequalities in science careers.

I've had students come to me in 6th grade telling me that they don't like science, but by using hands-on activities and models like these, they become excited and curious about subjects they thought they hated. With these supplies, I can spark their interest and give them a solid foundation in science education that they can take to high school and beyond.
