My Soccer team is made up of amazing individuals who have a passion for the sport. We compete with local schools who have resources we don't as a school system. We lack the parental involvement, booster club and involved alumni that would help us grow.
Our soccer players are from around the world; Jamaica, Thailand, Peru, Brazil, Columbia, Guyana, Mexico, The Dominican Republic.
They love soccer but require extra time together as a team to learn how to play and win together. Players are in need of experiences that foster personal growth and strengthen the team as a whole. In a school that loves football and basketball, soccer is often overlooked. My international squad needs the inspiration to stand out and shine.
My Project
Students in my school are always in need of something that will encourage them to take their commitment to the next level. Many teams we play have booster clubs and a PTO to fund their needs, my kids don't have any of that. Soccer is my passion, and my belief is participating in soccer can have a long-lasting positive effect on their lives.
Many of my players come to soccer practice and participate barefoot, many can't afford the right shoes and refuse to sit out!
My school currently has a budget crisis, funding for sports is weak and is in need of assistance. I am trying to promote the sport and increase participation, anything I can do to attract students from the school to join the team is my goal, my secondary goal is to make sure players attend EVERY practice.
The main purpose of the soccer cleats/socks/shin pads is to make sure my players are safe and avoid injury. I try to focus on leadership, ownership and personal responsibility. The pink socks are to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
I understand the dangers of Hartford CT. Violence is a normal part of living in the city. If I can provide an outlet to encourage my players to create a better life for themselves after high school is over, I have done my job. I strive for them to become better people, wins and losses are a natural part of the game, I want them to be successful in life! Soccer might not be the cure for all the negativity the world has to offer, but maybe it can provide the spark that leads to a positive productive.
