My students see the need to attend college, but often lack required resources. Their dreams of a college education need to be supported so that they can to continue to hope for a better life.
My 114 10th grade students attend a college-prep charter high school, where over 55% of the students qualify for free and reduced lunches and the students are from all ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
At my school, many of the students are second language learners from Africa, the Middle East, Mexico, and Vietnam. My students are constantly challenging themselves to be the strongest and best learners, but need some assistance. This past year no monies were available to provide computers/laptops to my underprivileged students. But, in order for my students to be success in my English courses, they need access to computers/laptops for word-processing, researching, revising, and developing presentations. These activities are all required to meet 10th grade English standards and continue their journeys towards college and a better life. For my students to have a realistic chance of succeeding academically, they need computers/laptops for use in the classroom.
My Project
I am requesting two HP mini-laptops for my students to use. They will be able to use these HP mini-laptops to tackle the challenges of my 10th grade English course, so that they will meet the necessary standards to be on track for graduation and eligible for college acceptance. These HP mini-laptops will give my students access to technology to be able to write and revise essays, research information for documented papers, and create and organize power-point presentations.
My students have just begun on the road of what is their potential by preparing for college and their lives’ work, but still they need some help.
I want to empower my students with access to technology, so any funding that can make this happen is so very important. Thank you.
