My Students

My students are expected to meet the A-G requirements for California's U.C. universities in order to graduate from our high-poverty charter high school. But, when they eventually meet these requirements, they often struggle with all the steps necessary to apply to college and for financial aid.

My 9th grade students attend a high-poverty charter high school where all students are expected to pursue a college education.

My job is to focus on their academic preparation and to supply guidance so that they are able to stay on a college/university track. Sadly, the majority of my students are not ready for academic rigor and challenges of a college-prep education, thus I have to work overtime to ensure they do not fall through the cracks of a large school by getting overlooked and forgotten. I diligently monitor all of their grades, attendance, and behavioral progress, because I know that if I can guide them through the major pitfalls and bumps, their odds of graduating from a college-prep high school and getting into a college/university are that much better. However, since most of my students live in homes without computers access, even with my help it is a struggle for my students to make it without increased access to computers, such as the HP laptop I have requested.

My Project

My students need a HP laptop to assist them in preparing for and getting into a 4-year college/university. This HP laptop will be used by my students to prepare for college entrance tests (SAT & ACT), researching potential colleges/universities that suit their aspirations and academic preparation, submitting on-line college/university applications, and eventually for the very necessary step of applying for scholarships, grants, loans, and other forms of financial aid. This HP laptop will also be used to assist my students in effectively meeting the standards of college-prep courses that require formal writing and presentations. And finally, this HP laptop will become a powerful too in aiding my students in the realization of the dream of a college education; especially since most of them will be the first in their families to pursue higher education in a college/university.

My number one priority is to get my students eligible for, accepted by, and into 4-year universities.

This is definitely a significant and formidable challenge for my students, but with your assistance it will become that much more possible. Thank you for any contribution.
