My students need these "How to Train Your Dragon" books which provide socially appropriate stories and ways to deal with a variety of issues including bullying, accepting others, being kind, etc.
My students are in grades 3-5 and have a variety of different needs. They all receive social skills instruction on a daily basis as part of the program they are in. It is my responsibility, as their Autistic Support Teacher, to utilize a variety of resources to instruct them in this area. I have recently found a series of books called "How to Train your Dragon to..." which provides social scenarios in fun and inviting ways that my students enjoy.
This books will allow my students to access our social skills curriculum in an engaging and enjoyable way.
My Project
These "How to Train Your Dragon" books will provide my students with socially appropriate ways to handle a variety of issues including bullying, accepting no, etc. It can be difficult to find books that my students can connect with but since reading one of these books to them, all of them have asked for me to read it again. The books are full of engaging illustrations of a boy and his dragon, Diggory Doo, who he teaches social skills to in fun ways.
My students will benefit from having these books in our classroom by providing them with engaging stories that they are able to relate to and enjoy.
