Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Each student in my classroom is a joy to teach, always prepared and willing to ask great questions. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met throughout the school year. They are truly an exceptional group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year. having access to new books will be a great help to them.

My Project

My students will learn how to read critically and how to see how people try to deceive with facts - this is a class that teaches persuasion and how to not be distracted by figures and facts that are being presented erroneously. They will also be reading American Non-fiction memoirs that depict life in a variety of cultural contexts - "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" will be a complement to Rebecca Walls' "The Glass Castle" - two very different stories with inter-connected issues that affect the current cultural conversation. Class copies of these works will be a great help to us.
