Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are unique individuals who come daily to school ready to learn and to be part of our school community.

Our school is a Title 1 school with approximately 95% of the students on free of reduced lunch.

The low income/high poverty that surrounds them does not deter their spirit to learn. By providing different learning experiences, success in life will be attained. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school, my students are faced with various obstacles, some stem from their home life while others stem from learning gaps. Despite the many challenges they face, I strive to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

My students face daily challenges outside and inside our classroom. Also, Hurricane Harvey disrupted many of their lives. Because of this, my intent is to keep education alive and going for them with positive learning experiences. Our school is a place I can inspire them to have and desire academic excellence. My hope as an educator is to be my students' wild card, to be that card for them to win at life, even when the cards are stacked against them.

My Project

Good readers are good thinkers and research shows that good thinkers have great executive skills, which are mental skills to manage their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to achieve their goals.

With my at-risk students, success is something that has to be worked with faithfully and attained in various manners.

My students need diverse learning techniques to conquer reading and math gaps and interruptions. Trying to close academic difficulties is vital for my students.

The typical process that involves in closing the academic gaps can be pretty mundane in our class. Therefore, I would love for my students to develop their executive skills by playing exciting games!

These games will help promote the 6 essential skills involved in developing executive skills: planning, organization, cognitive flexibility, working memory, inhibitory control, and social understanding.

Challenges with a certain skill is something that can be overcome when fun and interactive activities await them. Students will be able to close their gaps and be one step closer to achieving their goals through playing fun games. Also at the same time, they will be able to build the mental skills they need to properly manage their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors which will in turn help them not only academically, but in their overall life.

Your donation will help reach and increase students' overall achievement and student success. Thank you very much!
