I work with an incredible group of diverse pre-kindergarten students. Most of the students come from low-income families, so educational materials are hard to come by.
Early childhood grades have always been something that are very near and dear to my heart.
There are so many different cultures and personalities, but the one thing that my students all have in common is that they all love to learn and work together as a classroom community. They each have a lot to offer and share.
Financial literacy really starts at a young age. I would like to change our dramatic play area into an art store where my students will make and pretend to sell their creations to their classmates. With the alphabet beads, we will create beautiful necklaces and bracelets that will be propped up for sale in our play centers. We will have a designated seller who "answers" all of the phone calls from their customers. The putty will be used to help create various mold structures. All of these carefully picked out items will allow my students to start comprehending how adults utilize money in their everyday life.
One of the most wonderful aspects of Pre-K is the idea of starting small.
This is the age group where we can introduce life long skills and the ability to recognize important emotions that will help enable them to become contributing citizens in the future.
