Mrs. Boland from Elkins WV is requesting lab equipment through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

How Population and changing environment effects our resources!

Help me give my students the opportunity to do hands on labs to discuss population of organisms and how they relate to sustainability and our limited resources of our changing environment.

My Students

My students come from diverse social-economic backgrounds that have not necessarily been exposed to science to its full extent. They enjoy hands-on activities using new and interesting science tools. They come to school each day trying to put behind them the sometimes not so great home life ready to learn and experience new things. Often our students have not been out of state and their experiences with science and life, in general, are limited.

My hope is to broaden their understanding of what science is and potentially inspire some future scientists.

My Project

I will be able to interconnect the three labs to show how our growing population effects our ecosystem. There for it also effects our resources. We can start by talking about populations and how to estimate population size. Once a understanding of population size is there we can talk about how our ecosystem is changing. Students can use hands on examples of this. Once we have a understanding of population and our ecosystem we can talk about how resources need to be sustainable for future populations.

Doing these labs will hopefully connect how we as humans have impacted our resources and then intern our future.

From this they will learn about global footprint and reducing their personal impact so things are available for future generations.
