My Students
I am a high school librarian at a selective enrollment public high school located in the Englewood neighborhood on Chicago's South Side.
Our students come primarily from South Side communities and are some of the best and brightest students in Chicago.
Sixty percent of the students at my school come from low-income homes. At our school, students stretch themselves to learn more about themselves and each other.
My Project
The theme for our school's Black History Month display and programming is "How Long Until Black Future Month," based on the book title by N.K. Jeminsin.
We plan to have students engage in writing and trivia contests, as well as promote books that focus on Black futures and often untaught historical figures in the African American community.
With your help, we'll have more work by insightful writers and illistrators to share with and inspire students at our school for Black History Month. Students need access to quality and representative books so that they can be our nation's future writers and artists.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
