Mrs. Gipson from Baltimore MD is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need an Earthbox, seed kits, a plant science classroom kit, and a herb set to begin a school garden.

Have you ever seen children working in a garden, picking their own fruits and vegetables, enjoying a tasty treat they grew themselves? This is the experience I hope to provide my class with the help of FEED USA and generous donors like you!
My students need to learn about plants in a way that is engaging, fun, and worthwhile.
Gardening is the perfect opportunity to do that. My classroom is full of 32 wonderful, bright, and eager to learn 2nd grade students. The students themselves are as unique as they come; they are diverse in culture, language, and educational needs. However, about 90% of them are low socio-economic status and many are considered high-risk due to the conditions in which they live. They love science and love to get their little hands dirty. These 7 year olds hope to plant a garden outside our school. It would be fantastic to see them with plants in their hands, dirt under their finger nails, really learning from what they thought was an exceptionally fun lesson. Please help my 2nd grade scientists to be successful gardeners.
For many of my students this will be the first time they are exposed to seed planting and gardening. Hands on projects like this encourage learning. This introduction to gardening can be the start of a life time interest for my students. I am requesting the resources like the Ready to Grow Kit and Stand, seeds, and the herb garden to create a school garden that my students will be able to work in. In an effort to make life sciences fun and engaging, I am also beautifying our campus. This project will not only benefit my students' learning needs but also their nutritional needs. My hope is to extend this project into a community garden that is sustainable for the community and help those who are in need of food. My students will be learning about the science of living plants, growing seeds, and composting. This project will also give the students an opportunity to learn about team work, leadership and community involvement. It doesn't matter what your ability level is, there is a way to help out.
This project is important because my students need to learn about plants and gardening for state curriculum.
I want to take these lessons out of the classroom and have them create a beautiful garden and nothing beats growing your own vegetables and fruits and eating them. I want students to experience what it is like to work laboriously in a garden and see what their hard work will bring. At the same time they learn how to plant, grow, and take care of our environment.
