The school garden is a place of mysterious wonder for our students. Our young scientists need equipment to explore the knowledge growing in our garden!
Our school is blessed with students who are hard workers and voracious learners.
We may speak different languages at home, but at school we work together to learn from each other and the world around us. Most of our students live in apartments, so they have had little to no exposure to the experience of growing one's own food or other plants.
My Project
Living in an urban area, our students do not have many opportunities to experience and learn from nature. When asked where fruits and vegetables come from, most would answer,"from the store." We need tools to help our young scientists study and collect data from our school garden so that they are able to learn how vegetables and herbs grow. The magnifying lenses will be used to study plants, flowers, vegetables, worms, and bugs that we find in our garden. The scales will be used to weigh vegetables and herbs grown in the garden, thereby tying in math with our garden. The spray bottles will be used to spray student-made, organic pest control solutions on plants with the goal of comparing different solutions and their effect on plants.
This is such a wonderful opportunity to help our students learn from a hands-on experience.
The knowledge they gain from our school garden is information they will need as they go through life!
