We are a Title I school where 85% of our population receive free or reduced-price lunch. Our students are curious, inquisitive and avid readers and explorers, when the resources are available. They want to connect and discover through collaborative group discussions.
They love to explore worlds outside of their own, since their real world is limited and not always reliable.
Their love of learning is contagious even when the world outside of school is in turmoil. Our students have the desire to grow and learn academically, however they do not always have the means. They have a vision for learning environments where their economic status is not apparent and everyone has equal opportunities.
My Project
The Miracle Gro Soil and gardening tools will support two Project Based Learning Classrooms with the importance of gardening, not only for themselves but also for their community. These materials will be used in two of our project based lessons during the school year. My students are learning about the environment and how to help and protect the community.
By having the Miracle Gro soil and gardening tools they will be able to grow their own garden and they will get first-hand experience in how easy it is to take care of their community and its environment.
The other lesson the students will be engaged in will encompass survival, especially during the Florida hurricane season and the garden will show them that they can survive by a growing supply of their own food even when the electricity is out!
