Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I work in a primary classroom ( grades kindergarten to 2nd grade) where the focus is teaching the social, emotional, and behavioral skills necessary to be successful in the educational environment.

My students are outgoing, resourceful, and energetic and love learning.

They have an energy to learn and need some additional guidance on tapping into their strengths to be successful in school. In our Title 1 school, most students do not have access to mindfulness resources they need to develop these strengths.

My Project

Research shows that providing students with multiple seating options for completing classwork improves engagement and productivity. Everyone remembers sitting in those hard plastic chairs. Constantly shifting to get comfortable. Every student has a different comfort level. I would like to receive these seating options to give my students a choice on what would be the most comfortable option for seating in the classroom.

Bean bag chairs are a comfy option for students who like to have a more at home closer seat to the ground.

Wiggle wobble chaira provide students who need to rock and need movement while working. Exercise balls can be used for small or large group and help students release some energy by bouncing or rocking. By providing these options, students will be able to choose a seat where they can be productive and engaged. The seating options I chose will also allow the students opportunities for movement while engaging in academic instruction.
