Help me give my students exposure to Life Science by analyzing cell kits, and discovering the difference between plant and animal cells.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. I teach at an inner-city school in Washington DC where 98% of our students are minorities and 100% are classified as economically disadvantaged.
They all come from low-income homes, where many parents work multiple jobs and have little time to attend to them.
Many of my students do not have much exposure to things outside their neighborhood. Despite so many hardships, I want to inspire them to be their best and to expose them to careers in Science Technology, Engineering and Math.
They only want to be in school because they want to stay out of trouble and have a safe place to go. Please help me increase engagement in the classroom and show them that learning science through STEM projects is fun and make it as interesting as possible so the will want to "be all they can be" and strengthen their love of learning through literacy, math, science technology, and much, much more.
This project will give my class a hands-on approach to Life Science. Students will be exploring plant and animal cells and cell reproduction. Students learn best when they have the opportunity to touch, analyze and ask questions. This gives my students this opportunity.
Many of my students have not had exposure to growing plants and analyzing how they grow.
With these kits, they can not only grow them by comparing plan cells to animal cells. These hands-on materials are just what they need. Exploring life and getting the first experience will help them better understand some the intricacies of growth and development.
