Hooray! This project is fully funded

I am a third-grade teacher at P.S. 169, an elementary school in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Our school is a title one school, where all of our children get free lunch and most of them come from low-income families that don't speak English at home. Science is one of our favorite subjects to learn about. Unfortunately, because there is such a focus on reading and math, science is often overlooked. For this reason, we are left with not enough money in the budget for the hands-on manipulatives that make learning about science fun. That is why I am asking you to help our children learn more about science and enjoy it at the same time! I'm asking you to please help us purchase science materials to help us learn about rocks and the Earth. How do earthquakes happen? What makes a rock? What are minerals in the Earth? The Rock and Fossil Collections from Lakeshore Learning will help us answer these questions. From the glassy texture of obsidian to the distinct layers in mica, these collections let students explore the properties of rocks and fossils—-firsthand! We would also like an Earth Science Photo Books Series from Lakeshore. These six hardcover books discuss issues from wind and water that erode the Earth's surface to petrified trees and dinosaur fossils. These materials will engage my students' attention and teach them about this wonderful planet we live on. Thank you for considering bringing these exciting resources to my students.
