This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most of my students relish every minute they have with the guitar in their hand. The problem is in the beginning and end of class they have to line up single file and put the instruments back in a closet. It wastes around 10 minutes each class.

We are the biggest high school in the 6th largest city in the U.S.

62% of the students are on free lunch and over %25 are below the poverty line. The guitar program currently has 140 aspiring musicians. The students are some of the most polite, friendly, well behaved, excellent kids I have ever met. There is such a strong bond and feeling of togetherness within the school and program it's hard to believe many of the students have such a rough life.

My Project

These six guitar stands will be strategically placed around the room and used everyday. The kids will place their guitars on the stands when they leave and pick them up when they enter. It will save around %20 of total class time! They will also be used during performances. Imagine 35 guitarists professionally dressed up and full of excitement and pride sharing the stage with 35 cases.

These stands should serve 1000's of students for many years.

It should give roughly 75 more hours of class time to the students in just this year alone! I truly feel that some of the students stay in school only because they get to play and learn guitar every day. These stands will allow them to play and learn more.
