Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a Kindergarten teacher in a public school system. Our school population is eighty percent Hispanic. Our parents are working class people who care about their children and see education as a way for their children to have a better future. They are very supportive of their children and of our neighborhood school.

My goal is to teach my students to be enthusiastic and independent learners.

Many of my students come to me with no formal educational experience. Since Kindergarten is the foundation for all the years to come, it is so important for me to make sure that I not only teach my students needed subject matter, but also teach them to love learning. This is a mission I take very seriously.

My Project

Our school focus this year is a social-emotional one to help our students learn to identify and cope with how they are feeling.

In our changing world learning to get along with others is incredibly important.

It is hard for five-year-olds to empathize with other children but it is a vital skill for them to learn to become mentally healthy adults.

These materials have many hands-on manipulatives that will give my students an opportunity to experience a variety of emotions and help them develop skills to not only identify those feelings but also teach them strategies to cope with them as well.
