This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a Title I elementary school in Houston where lunch and breakfast is 100 percent free. Many of my students are aided in a weekend "backpack buddy" program to take home food for their families. Most of my students come from low economic backgrounds.
My students are a very energetic group of pre-kindergarteners, many of whom suffered loss from hurricane Harvey.
Despite all the hardships and trauma they have faced, they come in smiling and eager to learn.
My Project
My Pre-K students are in dire need of technology. One of the skills to be taught in Pre-K is navigating through software programs to enhance development of appropriate concepts. Sadly we only have two old desktops that malfunction frequently. Our technology is so limited that I have brought in my personal iPad for my students to use.
My students need Chromebooks and tablets to help them enhance their technology development.
This addition of technology will not only help their technology development, it will benefit many other educational areas. They will use these to explore educational apps and other programs that will help them in Reading, Math, and many more subject areas.
