The students from my school live in one of the poorest Congressional Districts in the country. Many of our students are English language learners who live day-to-day and view coming to this public school as a way to escape their home lives. We try our best to provide students with access to after school programs and technology, but with major budget cuts, we can no longer afford to fund student-centered projects. It has become increasingly difficult to offer services to our English Language Learners as well as our large population of students with Special Needs.
Like most teenagers, my students have little knowledge of what is going on in the world. Sadly, if it does not involve celebrities, they do not watch the news or read a magazine or newspaper. In order to make current events relevant, the format has to be easy and most importantly, interesting. Scholastic Magazines offer both! I have used these magazines in my Current Events classes before and have had great success!
My students need access to current events' articles that are high interest and easy to read.
Scholastic Magazines make that very easy. And the articles focus on many different topics and offer great pictures to grab the reader's interest.
