Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a Title I school that is in an at-risk and low-income neighborhood. My students come from diverse backgrounds; the majority are Hispanic or African American. A little less than half of my students are limited English proficient and exceptional education students.
Many come from single-parent households or families that are in transition.
We work very hard to overcome all of these challenges. My students have the exact same eagerness to learn science as their peers in more affluent schools. Unfortunately, the school's resources and technology are very limited.
My classroom is a place where curiosity is cultivated and creativity is fostered. My students are inquisitive learners who love learning about our world. I strive to make all lessons interesting and engaging so students become more curious about the world and crave even more knowledge. The world's greatest inventions and advancements all started with curiosity.
My Project
In my STEM classroom, students are constantly designing and building protypes and models to solve real-life problems, such as hurricane-proof houses to foot support devices. I love these projects because my students are learning and practicing their engineering design process skills without even knowing it.
While the designs may vary student to student, the one thing that all their projects have in common is hot glue.
Hot glue holds their projects securely together so each project holds up well to show case to the class, parents, and even at school events.
With these hot glue sticks, my incoming students will get to participate in these hands-on learning experiences and put their STEM skills to use. Thanks for your support!
