Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Almost 50% of my students require special education services and almost 50% can be labeled as English language learners. Despite this, I set high expectations for my students and want them to succeed. These students do require extra language-based support and Hot Dots will help them succeed.
I have a classroom of 25 students, many who can be labeled as a minority, many who require special education services, many who can be labeled as English Language Learners, and many who go to homes that have very few to no books that they can read for their enjoyment.
I work in a public school district that many label as 'failing,' but everyday my students fight to beat the odds and prove that they can succeed. These students come to school excited for learning. Despite what labels are thrown at them, these students emphasize day in and day out why I love to teach so much and work so hard to make sure they succeed.
My Project
These language-based hot dots will help students practice skills to achieve and surpass 3rd grade benchmarks. These hot dots will be used primarily during our intervention block to target students' specific needs. We often have centers during this time, and these hot dots will be used as an independent center to support and further their language-based learning.
Your donation to my project will help my students, many who speak English as a second language and speak Spanish at home daily, to achieve and surpass 3rd grade language benchmarks.
As well, having strong language skills will benefit these students in many ways as they enter the world, go to college, and get jobs. Having these skills will greatly benefit them for the rest of their life!
