Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is a personalized learning classroom where children work on and master concepts at their own pace. Since my students are all working on a variety of skills at any given time, it would be extremely beneficial for them to have fun choices for independent activities.
I teach at a Title 1 school.
My students are from very low socio-economic backgrounds. My classroom consists of about 75% Hispanic students and 25% African American students. My students do struggle with the language and grasping certain concepts, but they try extremely hard. At my school we are PBIS (Positive Behavior Incentive System) and it truly works. The students are very well behaved and their love of learning is evident.
My Project
Since my students are working on mastering standards at their own pace, they are very rarely on the same lesson. While I pull small groups of students to work with, the other students need challenging and beneficial activities to work on either independently or in partners. The requested Hot Dots activities and pens for math and reading will be perfect for this! The students will find the activities fun and will also be learning as they go! The reading comprehension hot dots will be especially helpful since many of my students struggle with comprehension due to their limited knowledge of the English language.
Donations to this project will help put my students on a level playing field.
They may not speak the language or understand all of the vocabulary, but allowing them to practice their math and reading skills in a fun interactive way will give them the leg up they deserve.
