My students attend a small, neighborhood school located in Boise, Idaho. We are very fortunate to have such an involved and supportive community which helps to provide a nurturing atmosphere. As a Kindergarten teacher, I want to ensure that their first experiences in the classroom are enriching and engaging. My students are eager to learn and I want to provide as many learning opportunities as possible. My goal is to instill a love of learning that they will carry with them throughout their educational experience.
I am the only Kindergarten teacher in the building and my role is comprised of delivering the district curriculum, as well as finding innovative ways to get my students engaged.
My ultimate goal for my students is to provide them with ample opportunities so they learn through exploration while I differentiate the learning to meet their needs.
My Project
As a Kindergarten teacher, I encounter many children who have never experienced a structured classroom setting. My main goal is to set them up for success so that they love school, continue to be curious, and want to learn all they can. I believe my students would benefit from the 2017 Parents' Choice Recommended Award winning Hot Dots learning sets. Hot Dots are interactive tools that help to supplement the curriculum by testing the students' knowledge through the use of a power pen and multiple choice answer cards. The cards target key content skills in variety of curricular areas.
The Educational Insights website states that Hot Dots are an "Out of the box active learning experience that inspire a child's curiosity and encourage them to explore, discover, and create." Through the use of Hot Dots, I could help children master critical, age appropriate skills while promoting independent learning.
My classroom is set up where students work in learning centers on a daily basis. The use of the Hot Dots would be incorporated into our daily routines.
I have the potential to teach 46 students everyday, and they look to me to lead them into a world of knowledge. As a teacher, my job is to meet the needs of all of my students and having choices, such as the Hot Dots, would help me to provide self-paced learning
