My students are eager and excited to learn in a dynamic and stimulating environment. They engage enthusiastically with technology and digital media. They are open to new ideas and love trying new things.
My school is a wonderful community of people who are willing to go the distance to make sure that our kids succeed.
This translates to our classrooms. We help each other out, we use encouraging words, and we support each other through happy and difficult times. There is nothing that we would not do for each other.
My Project
I use a workshop model for both my reading and my mathematics block of instruction. During this time, students are either working in small groups or one-on-one with me, on one of four class computers solving math problems, working independently, or working with a partner at a learning center. Hot Dots are great way to engage students while I am working with small groups. Other teachers use them often in the classroom and with great success. I know that students will get more out of the lesson if they are working with materials that they find stimulating and enjoyable. I also appreciate that the electronic manipulative will provide students with direct feedback while working with it.
Students will use the Hot Dot pens during both reading and math to support reading comprehension and multiplication and division fluency. Other teachers will benefit as well because these will be shared as needed with others.
Technology engages my students in a dynamic way.
I have noticed that with the proper modeling of expected behaviors, tools like the Hot Dot pen, can keep students involved with the learning engagement for a much longer time. I have many students who are kinesthetic learners and students who enjoying hearing immediate feedback. Hot Dots will provide an engaging way for students to interact with particular units of study while I am working with individuals and with small groups of learners.
