My students need opportunities to practice their foundational math skills and Hot Dots is the perfect interactive tool for this purpose. Additionally, the student run "Snack Shack" needs a cash box for its weekly business.
Fifth and sixth grade students create our community of multi-age learners. As part of the upper elementary, these students switch classes and teachers. I have the privilege of teaching Math and Science. Our students frequently engage in project based learning and are fortunate to have a STEAM lab, the school garden and a daily arts/movement class to foster a full and deep learning environment.
This population of students also participates as the officers for our Student Advisory on campus (K-6) and have facilitated monthly service projects to benefit global, national and local causes which are important to our student body and their families.
As a result of one of the fundraisers, students in 5th and 6th now operate a weekly Snack Shack at the various lunches for their classmates selling healthier snack items.
My Project
Students continually work on developing their foundational math skills while also learning new concepts. The goal is for all students to improve their basic math fluency skills, whether working on place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, time, money or fractions - skills which all K-6 students need to know.
Hot Dots Power Pens and Quiz Cards address all of the math foundational skills while providing students an opportunity to practice for improved fluency, in an interactive manner.
The system offers students instant reinforcement. Kids just touch an answer with the special pen, and the pen tells them if they’re right or wrong.
