Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a small, fully inclusive charter school, where almost seventy percent of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch. I work with students who are labeled in many ways: ELL, LD, ID, BIP, IEP, SLP, apraxic, autistic, ADD, ADHD, ODD, and the list goes on. I'm working to help students remove their labels and find their feet, as well as their voices.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds, but one thing they have in common is their thirst for creative learning opportunities.
My Project
This project, full of HotDot reading cards and a teepee space, is to introduce technology into our independent reading stations. Hot Dots are an innovative way to self-check, energize, and let students lead the way.
Student-led reading centers are making a large impact on today's education.
Giving students more ownership and less direction is turning our students into educational leaders. Instead of drilling or lecturing can create more buy-in from our students. Hot Dots provide the perfect center for independent learners or small group, collaborative stations. These Hot Dots will bring a zest and a variety of topics for review such as antonyms and high level vocabulary. Let's put these resources into the hands of our tiny, capable students.
