Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My fifth graders live in a primarily working class and immigrant neighborhood that is currently going through some demographic changes. Some of my students are learning English as a second language, some have special needs, and they all love to learn. We are a film and communication magnet center.
Our school motto is, "The world is changing, and change starts with me." This message is so true in 2020!
Every student at our school received Chromebooks to take home in March so they could continue learning online during the pandemic. The transition was tough for them at first, but our kids have continued their learning with enthusiasm and energy using a variety of online platforms. Now they are distance learning experts!
My Project
Distance learning may be challenging, but that won't stop us from expanding our horizons. The show must go on. Literally!
I am requesting soprano recorders so we can conduct music lessons remotely.
What's better than the gift of music? My teaching partner and I want our students to learn a musical instrument, and a great way to accomplish this is by teaching them the recorder.
We are requesting recorders so our students can play beginner classics like "Hot Cross Buns," "Mary Had a Little Lamb," and "This Land Is Your Land." With enough practice, they will be able to perform for their families at culmination at the end of the year, whether it's in person or by Zoom. My kids and I thank you!
