Hospital School Children See The World Through An iPad!!
Help me give my students an iPad and case they desperately need while they are admitted in the hospital to do research for the many activities we work on in class.
I teach in a pediatric psych unit where I educate kids from grades K-8. I am trying to create a safe and happy environment for my students while they are admitted at the hospital since many of them come from foster homes where unfortunately, they don't have that type of care. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Many of them have experienced trauma in their lives and have difficult time academically in school.
My class serves students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder, and specific learning disabilities.
Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My Project
I cover all subjects (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, Art, etc.) with the children who are admitted to the psychiatric unit of the hospital I teach at. Unfortunately we seem to be stuck in the stone age a bit with some of the technology we currently have. I have some original iPads which are definitely helpful but very limited. The kids requested that I get a new generation iPad so they can do more activities that the old one cannot do. Also I added a case to the order because if anyone who has a kid knows that when you let children use a phone or a tablet, you put a good case on it.
