Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a wonderful school with excited, motivated students. They always inspire me with their love of learning. Our school has a majority of high socio/economically disadvantaged children. We are a Title l school with many cultures represented (mostly Latino and Vietnamese). I truly believe in our motto of "preparing all children as global learners."
Although many of our students come from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds, we strive to never let this come between us and our successes!
Many of the students live in neighborhoods that tend to be unsafe and underprivileged which causes a lack of opportunities. I hope to give these students as many resources as they may need in order to become successful both in and outside of our classroom!
My Project
During the school day it is important that students are given opportunities to work in smaller groups. By having a space in which students can gather and work closely with the teacher allows them to get individualized attention and instruction.
Small group interaction during all types of instruction is one of the most valuable strategies for helping students excel in their reading.
A horseshoe table allows the teacher to reach multiple students in a small group setting. This gives the teacher and students a more personal interaction so that each student gets the specific instruction they need.
Within the classroom there is a large range in reading and math abilities. Because of this, students need more one-on-one time with the teacher. Having a table like this will greatly benefit every learner in the classroom.
