Horse Around Respect On the Ranch
Help me give my students this opportunity to have unique, hands on lessons in respecting diversity and doing team work in a way they will never forget on a ranch learning through horses!
Our students live in a small town in a rural USA. We have 154 students. Most begin school with a long list of challenges to overcome.
Broken homes, high drug use and lack of jobs mean 65 % of our students are on free/reduced lunch and struggle with basic physical and emotional needs.
In spite of the difficulties these kids want to love and be loved.
They enjoy the playground, love their teachers and enjoy someone being proud of them.
More than half of our students in our rural little town come to school with way too much baggage for their little bodies. They have seen drug abuse and experienced need. Many have seen family members taken to jail and experienced the foster system.
Most are limited to the experiences the school has to offer.
This project allows the kids to go outside our town and experience a real ranch. They are able to bond with a horse and experience the concepts we teach in SEL through fun obstacle courses and games.
By exposing our students to horses we take the classroom out of the box to allow the book to blossom.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
