The students that walk into our school and my classroom bring a backpack full of more than just folders with them each morning. Their backpacks are full of emotions, thoughts, and experiences that shape their day to day lives.
Each child comes from a different culture and background bringing various perspectives and challenges into our classroom.
The majority of our students come from low-income families that work hard to support their families but are barely getting by. Along with the lack of income, language is also a barrier for many students and their families. The language barrier makes it difficult for students and parents to understand and feel comfortable in our formal education system. While some students struggle with language, others face difficult experiences outside of the school setting. These experiences follow students into the classroom where we in turn work to help them find their confidence and self-worth.
Despite all of the things going on, my students are committed, motivated and encouraged to be the best students they can be.
Our students are slowly getting more technology materials for the classroom, which allow them to have differentiated materials to meet their needs. Students use different programs to meet their individual needs, and grow as a learner. Our students would benefit from having reliable headphones to help them to continue to grow.
Technology is essential in growing as a leader, and our students deserve the ability to be able to learn independently from sources that meet their needs.
The headphones would benefit all of the fourth grade students and ensure that their individualized needs are being met while securing reliable technology.
