Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are creative, hands-on learners who love to explore what is beyond our classroom. Sometimes, their low socioeconomic backgrounds prevent them from experiencing the world of science to its fullest. Oftentimes, funding in our schools prevent us from providing them with all the experiences that we want to share with them.
By seeing and touching the things we learn about in textbooks in real life make science more real to them!
I wish to make science more fun and exciting for them by introducing them to authentic scientific experiences.
My Project
The 7th graders at our school learn about cells. Human cells, plant cells, animal cells and even microorganisms like bacteria. They would benefit from being able to observe them closely through a microscope since they are much too small to observe unaided. By observing actual cells from the the things around us, they are able to gain an understanding of cells that are beyond a textbook and some pictures. I hope to draw our students' attention using these real life experiences!
In just a few years, our students will be moving on to learn higher level sciences in high school and I want to set my students up for success.
Being able to maneuver through laboratory equipment and having experienced them early on will allow them to seamlessly learn their way through rigorous academia without being slowed down. Please help me prepare my students for their future!
