My Students

Students enrolled in middle school band that are a part of a high poverty and highly transient community. The program is currently 5th-8th grade and serves over 200 students. Most students in the district are asked to provide their own instrument, supplies, and sometimes transportation. At my school, students can barely afford to purchase their school uniforms, let alone rent an instrument. All of the building music budget goes to maintaining and repairing instruments for the students to use during the year, which leaves little to no funds left to purchase rehearsal equipment.

My Project

Students will receive support with building their tonal memories, pitch manipulation, and aural skills in rehearsal. For students to practice their intonation, they need to be able to hear the changes in pitches and what an interval sounds like in tune. The Harmony Director provides multiple drones that can be adjusted to demonstrate the changing of pitch and hearing a perfectly in tune interval.

The Harmony Director also has an integrated metronome that can be programmed to change rhythms, time signatures, and tempi that can be integrated into rehearsal to help improve rhythmic transitions.

All of these helpful tools are conveniently in one place--which will help keep class moving smoothly and give the students more time to play.
