Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Unfortunately, because of lack of funding my school can not afford to give every teacher a functioning laptop to offer the best educational experience to every students. I currently have a very old Dell laptop from the early 2000's that is missing buttons and often freezes whenever I try to multitask during a lesson or when I am prepping for a lesson. My students are always eager to learn but often find it frustrating when I begin a lesson, are interested but then get upset or bored when I can not continue a lesson because the class laptop has yet again froze or turned off on its own. They always joke, as kids do, that their school have the oldest technology around and that the technology is as old as most of the teachers in the school. They all laugh but deep down inside I know they feel hurt that the public school budget has forgotten about them. I know they feel hurt because they feel that everyone has forgotten them because they too want to learn effectively but can't because the school can not afford the proper technology so that teachers could do a proper lesson.
My Project
Since I started teaching, ten years ago, I have used the same laptop for classroom instruction. When I received this laptop it was overused and breaking apart. I still have and use this laptop today. Although it has been loved and cherished I think it is time to put it to rest and it has had its day. This is why I have started this project. A new laptop will not only impact me, because I will not have to stress over whether or not the computer would work all day, but my students will finally get technology that works. This laptop will make a difference in my student's learning and will improve their school lives. With this laptop students will finally not wonder if the day's lesson will be successful because the classroom laptop has crashed yet again. They will finally see that they too matter and that people care about their education. Thank you for reading my post and for caring.
