Fall is in the air and the owls are calling our names. I always look forward to teaching my students all sorts of interesting owl facts and sharing all sorts of interesting owl books with my students. Plus, owl pellets are a wonderful way to involve my students in learning!
My students are very eager learners who love to get their hands dirty.
Our school is currently feeling the constraints of budget cuts which takes away any extra money to buy classroom supplies. Currently, we will not be able to buy owl pellets for our owl thematic unit. This saddens me because owl pellets provide an excellent opportunity for hands-on involvement. Of course, we will still learn lots of interesting owl facts but it will not be the same without the pellets.
My Project
I would like for my students to dissect owl pellets as a part of our owl unit of study. We have done this in the past and the children love it! It has proven to be a great way to involve parents since they are also invited to come and participate in owl pellet dissection day. Many of the parents don't know much about owl pellets so this is a wonderful learning experience for them to share with their children. We usually have great fun dissecting the pellets and then placing them together to try and figure which animal was the unlucky meal of the owl. It is a great way for the children to practice critical thinking skills as well as fine motor skills.
Please know that you can make this project happen.
I am very excited about the new school year and I want to plan wonderful things for my students. You are the key to a successful year. Please consider my proposal and know that you can truly impact the lives of my students. Thanks for your consideration.
