We are a one room community day school with students ranging in age from 14-18 with academic grade levels 6-12.

Our classroom is a one room portable placed behind the field of the high school. The students are not allowed to leave the area and are required to be on site from 8am to 3pm. The majority of the students have difficulty concentrating on academics for extending periods of time.

If we had a basketball hoop, we could post it on the side of the building and the students would have an alternative to standing around during breaks. Basketball is a sport that appeals to all ages and both male and female. It is not a contact sport and will be a safer activity for the students than football or any other high energy games that might spark fights.

Students that struggle academically usually excel in physical activities. Allowing these students to have opportunities throughout the day to engage in team play will have a huge impact on their ability to focus on academics and succeed in our educational system.
