Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
All different ethnicities make up our school and we are proud to be a strong community school.One hundred percent of our students in our school receive free breakfast and lunch. We have a mix of English Language Learners throughout the school.
The students take pride in their school and the teachers and staff who work there.
Our school does its best to support our students. We are a well crafted school that wants to ensure that students are receiving a well rounded education, as well as building relationships and everlasting characteristics that will shape who they are and prepare them for their future. These students need some tender love and care, and we are proud to provide that support.
My Project
Our goal this year is to create a space that students will be able to go to as an incentive for following classroom behavior systems and earning classroom points.
We, as teachers, need to find better ways to provide incentives in our classroom and in our school.
I am helping to create a space in our building that students can earn to play in as a reward. This space will allow students to have a few minutes of fun after earning privileges with their points received from our schoolwide and classroom wide behaviorl management system. The teacher and students set the expectation, and the students work towards earning those points during their academic time.
These materials will help the students understand that they are working for a privilege and a prize. The basketball game requested will be a positive and fun incentive for the students to play with. Currently, the students can earn Wii time, Xbox time, and pool time, but we are hopeful that the basketball game and its games will provide a more powerful incentive for the students to work hard to earn points and time in this fun space.
Hopefully, it will help the students model positive behavior during all academic areas and throughout the school to earn those points. The space will be filled with materials from this project as well as materials from future projects to boost students' confidence and overall behavior. The space we are creating is going to be called the SWAG room. This room will be designed around our classroom and schoolwide behavior plan in our school for students to earn time in.
