Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first grade teacher at a diverse school just outside of Washington, D.C. Our school is culturally and linguistically diverse; students represent more than forty-one countries and speak more than twenty different languages at home. More than seventy-four percent of our students receive free or reduced price lunch.
My curious first graders are full of enthusiasm for learning!
They come to school eager to learn with smiles on their faces. They are energetic learners who enjoy hands-on, inquiry-based lessons differentiated to meet their individual needs.
My Project
My students absolutely love to read! Once they get hooked on a book series, they don't want to stop reading about their favorite characters!
I want my students to meet diverse characters they can relate to, so they can "see" themselves in the books they read.
These series books will allow my students to have so many more books to read and explore, with characters they feel connected to. These books will help my students practice important reading skills as they analyze character traits, identify problem/solution, and retell the important events in the story.
It's so important to always have new and engaging books to help develop lifelong readers. Please help us continue to grow as readers and finish the school year strong!
