I teach wonderful, creative, and observant 2nd grade students from a Title 1 school in Brooklyn, New York. We are an ICT class made up of 30 unique children. My class is a group of diverse learners, including students that are English Language Learners and students with disabilities, that all have varying academic abilities. Each student comes to school every day eager and ready to learn new things.
My students are very enthusiastic about reading and can’t wait to get their hands on a good book!
My goal is to continue to foster a love of reading for my students. I want to provide everything I can to give them the best education possible!
My Project
I love to get my students excited about reading. One of the best ways for students to get into reading is by reading a series that they really like. This year my students will get to be a part of a series book club. In these book clubs they learn to track characters across series books which helps them truly get to know their character. The students will study the characters' feelings, characteristics, relationships, and changes. With these new books, I will be able to introduce new series and characters to the students for them to fall in love with.
These resources will help make sure that our series book clubs are differentiated, so that each student has access to a series book at their own independent reading level.
These books will support further differentiation among reading levels in our series clubs. These resources will stimulate and further student interest and excitement about their characters in their book club! Students will be able to have new series books to dive into. This will also give my students the excitement of discussing new series and the characters they meet through them with their classmates.
