Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a small, low-socioeconomic school community in Mott Haven, South Bronx.
My school is a Title I school where one-hundred percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch, and where we do not expect them to provide any supplies on their own.
Despite the incredible challenges at home and within the neighborhood, we assure that our students are receiving an equitable education. I am humbled every day by the struggles and resilience represented in my school, and I am determined to make a difference in our community.
My Project
Our school is honored to have a spacious auditorium where we hold various events such as: school plays, assembly awards and graduation ceremonies.
In all these events, proudly, our flags (United States, New York State and New York City) have been part of our unification as a community.
Unfortunately, our flags are old, tattered and are in need of replacement. Our school will definitely appreciate the brand new flags.
Our flags will be a daily visual and a great way to honor and to pay special tribute to our nation, their families and the scholars who strive for a better tomorrow.
