I have a great group of students who love to learn. They are your average 4th-grade students. They love to read and do projects. They talk a lot because they have so much to share. They love being creative and sharing their work and their interests with each other.
I am lucky that my students are so hardworking and want to do their best on everything.
They push themselves and each other to work harder and be their best. I enjoy being with them every day and watching them grow and mature academically as well as socially.
My Project
Book studies are a wonderful way to fully engage students in reading and discussion. The Mostly True Adventures of Homer P. Figg is a great example of an interesting novel set in the time period of the Civil War. It is a 4th grade book with a funny main character who approaches his life and the war in an entertaining way. Literature circles allow the students to read in small groups at their own pace with discussion questions to guide their learning. This is like a Book Group for the class.
These novels will enable the class to interact with the text through reader's response writing as well as with one another through literature circles and discussion.
They will be able to build their understanding of the historical period as well as experience the story and the characters. I am also requesting two novel study books to help in planning and discussing the book study.
