My classes are filled with wonderful and compassionate students who are trying to make their school and community a better place for everybody! They attend a small school in a very rural farming community. The students and school are plagued by the poor economics of the area and the continual lessening of funds provided by the state. They are now confronted by the unusual steps they must take in school to be safe from COVID-19. While we are safely in session right now I want to give the students some new and creative experiences!
Despite these situations, these students want to succeed, and we need to fully prepare them to meet the world!
I must commend their courage and compassion for learning and try to provide them with what they need to get as much education as possible, safely at this time!
My Project
My students have access to resin molds to make Tetris game sets for themselves to improve their math skills, chess sets to improve critical thinking skills and other games and brain teasers. My students have also been collecting family photos, both old and new, drying and pressing flowers and other botanics, collecting shells and sand from past vacations, and any other small items that have meaning to them. All these items will be imbedded in the games they make. The only thing they need is the resin to fill the molds.
What better way to learn and be entertained during a pandemic and to preserve items that have meaning to them!
Some of my students will learn about their family connections and personal history, some will preserve memories for years, but they will all have the learning games they need to keep learning during this pandemic.
