This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are amazing little people with big personalities! I work at a Title I school where 98% of my students qualify for free and reduced lunch. Of that 98% a high percent of those children are homeless according to our H.E.A.R.T. (Homeless Education Assistance Resource Team).
Despite the hardships my students may be facing at home, they always come to school with a positive attitude and an eagerness to learn.
They are not defined by their current living situation.
My Project
I hope to provide items such as tooth brushes, tooth paste, and deodorant for students who may not have access to these items at home or may not have access to running water to utilize these items if they do have them.
I would like to have a place in my clinic where students may have access to basic necessities such as personal hygiene items and clean under garments.
By providing these basic needs for my students, they can focus on whats important, getting their education! In addition to hygiene items, I would like to have jackets, shoes, and clean undergarments for my students that may not be able to afford these items or may not, due to their living situation, have access to a washing machine. My plan is to work along side with the school's guidance counselor to provide as many homeless children in our school with the tools they need to be success in class.
