Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students I work with are in a low-income area, with not many resources readily provided for them. Many of my students live in the local homeless shelters because of their unfortunate family situations. They want to learn and do well, but unfortunately, sometimes their circumstances do not allow for it. Many of my students are new to the country and are ELL students. They come from families where English is not often spoken. For many of my students, their first experience in America is in my class.
My students are very special and unique because they not only have to learn to adapt to living in a new country, but they also need to figure out how to be educated in an American school and adapt to living in shelters until their families can afford a proper home.
My Project
Many of my students live in a very poor neighborhood and come from families that have very sad and tragic backgrounds. Many of my students are homeless and live with one parent and many siblings in the local homeless shelters. They are hungry when they come to school because they did not have dinner the night before. The granola bars and healthy snacks will help them get through the day. I will often send them home with some snacks as well. Being they can't even afford food, they certainly can't afford to purchase necessities for doing well in school like notebooks and pencils. The supplies in this project will help my students do well physically and academically.
