One-sided, literal and often misunderstood, is how my students feel when exposed to the world as we know it. My students have a unique way of seeing things and understanding the world around them. My students come from diverse backgrounds, but share some common personality traits that bring them together. Too often the cafeteria and other large gathering places are too large and too noisy for them to enjoy lunch or breaks at school, and they seek a place of comfort and familiarity.
One of the greatest factors of a classroom is the layout of the space, specifically the lighting and seats where students are required to spend a majority of their time. Who wants to sit in the traditional school chairs four times a day for ninety minutes each under florescent lights, no one!
Having a futon, rocker chairs or stools will provide innovative and more comfortable options for students as they engage in learning opportunities in our homebase classroom for up to 90 minutes per block.
In addition, we are in need of additional lighting to limit the use of the florescent lights and tables to complete the room design and to assist with student storage needs throughout the room.
