My amazing students live in a rural area, and more than half survive below the poverty line. My classroom is an inclusion class. This means that I teach students with disabilities along with their typically developing peers.
I learn as much from my students as they learn from me.
Despite the challenges my students face from learning difficulties, poverty, and living in the heart of the opioid crisis, they continue to have good attitudes. They are eager to learn. I want to fill their space with the tools that help them to have the same opportunities as children in more prominent areas. My students deserve every advantage.
Each year, we have several students who are homeless. They often double up with another family, a grandparent, or reside in a shelter or motel. It is heartbreaking.
School is the closest thing to home that these children have.
It’s my goal to make it as warm, inviting, and comforting as possible. This nugget is ideal. It is a series of padded furniture that can be shaped into different configurations. It is as comfortable as a couch. The students all love these. They stretch out on them with a good book or sit with a friend to collaborate on a project. This nugget helps my classroom be their home. Please help me help my students.
